The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has established a dedicated taskforce to delve into an audit concerning Walesi, a key player in the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) Project. This move follows the recent release of the audit findings by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica.
During a session in Parliament, it was disclosed that the Fijian government allocated approximately $123.6 million to Walesi PTE LTD for the DTT Project’s operations between 2015 and 2022. FICAC has underscored the significance of this case, classifying it as one of national importance.
Commissioner Barbara Malimali has appointed Assistant Manager of the Economic Crimes Unit, Alifereti Wakanivesi, to spearhead the investigation starting today. This proactive approach by FICAC signals a commitment to transparency and accountability in the use of public funds, which is crucial for maintaining public trust.
This investigation reflects a larger trend of increasing scrutiny and oversight in governance, heralding a hopeful future where the responsible management of resources is prioritized. It represents an opportunity for strengthening institutional integrity and ensuring that public money is used effectively for the benefit of all citizens.
