Acting Commissioner Lavi Rokoika of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has prioritized internal security and the confidentiality of sensitive information since taking office. Speaking at the launch of FICAC’s Strategic Plan for 2025–2030 and Corporate Plan for 2025–2026, Rokoika highlighted the cessation of internal information leaks following her appointment in May. She implemented rigorous measures to secure internal information and emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of communications within the commission.
Rokoika’s leadership marks a proactive shift in FICAC’s operational framework. Prior to this, she had introduced significant reforms aimed at enhancing the commission’s capacity to combat corruption, including establishing a Special Taskforce to address unresolved investigations and streamline internal processes. Her actions are in alignment with FICAC’s goal to expedite processes, bolster investigative efforts, and fortify public trust.
Further, Rokoika stressed the importance of Key Performance Indicators in ensuring staff adherence to job roles, underlining FICAC’s commitment to accountability. The strategic plans unveiled aim to significantly reduce corruption, accelerate justice delivery, and enhance transparency and integrity within the organization. This comprehensive approach mirrors prior efforts initiated in her tenure, aimed at a broader reformative strategy to improve governance in Fiji.
FICAC’s recent strategic overhaul shifts the focus from procedural activities to results-oriented initiatives that substantially tackle corruption. Initiatives under Rokoika include intelligence-led investigations to better navigate modern corruption and building stronger international collaborations to preemptively address corruption risks. Such actions resonate with FICAC’s ongoing mission to safeguard public resources and rebuild trust in government institutions.
Acting Attorney-General Siromi Turaga has commended FICAC’s revised plans, reaffirming the government’s commitment to tangible outcomes. This strategic realignment, reflecting a proactive and hopeful stance, positions FICAC as a pivotal force in fostering accountability and transparency across Fiji. Through these reforms, there is optimism for establishing a corruption-free society and a brighter future for governance in Fiji.
