Francis Puleiwai, the Acting Deputy Commissioner for the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC), has resigned from her position following a meeting with the Judicial Services Commission. She announced that her resignation is effective immediately, citing an inability to continue working for FICAC in the current environment. Puleiwai has been in her role since last December.
Her resignation comes after she took measures against the newly appointed FICAC Commissioner, Barbara Malimali, which led to Malimali being questioned over allegations of abuse of office. Malimali was questioned and subsequently released around midday yesterday, with her legal representatives present. When approached for comments, Malimali stated that she would not comment at this time.
