Francis Puleiwai, the Acting Deputy Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC), has resigned following a meeting with the Judicial Services Commission. Her resignation is effective immediately. Puleiwai stated that she finds it difficult to continue working with FICAC under the current circumstances.
She was appointed to her role last December. Her resignation follows her actions involving the newly appointed FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali, who was questioned regarding allegations of abuse of office. Malimali was interrogated and subsequently released yesterday around midday, with her lawyers present. When the media approached her for comments, Malimali chose not to respond.
