The case involving Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) Commissioner Barbara Malimali has been passed to the Director of the Criminal Investigations Department for further inquiry.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) issued a statement noting that the initial investigation was incomplete. This case was referred to the ODPP by FICAC on September 19, shortly after Ms. Malimali’s appointment.
According to the statement, the inquiry was assessed by Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, John Rabuku, in consultation with Acting DPP Nancy Tikoisuva. It was determined that the investigation did not meet completion standards, prompting the decision to forward the file to the CID director for additional investigation.
Once the inquiry is concluded, the file will be sent back to the ODPP for a comprehensive review of all evidence. An update regarding the results of the review will be announced once the completed investigation file is received by the ODPP and further decisions are made.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Mesake Waqa confirmed the receipt of the investigation file and the accompanying guidance from the ODPP, stating that all necessary procedures will be adhered to regarding the registration, investigation, summarization, and return of the case to the ODPP.
