The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has submitted a case involving its Commissioner Barbara Malimali to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) for further review. This case pertains to allegations of Abuse of Office made against Malimali during her time as the Chair of the Electoral Commission of Fiji.
Additionally, FICAC has announced that five cases previously referred by the Supervisor of Elections have been concluded, with the Supervisor notified on July 24.
The first case involves alleged corrupt activities linked to the FijiFirst Party, specifically addressing false declarations attributed to the Fiji First Australia Association Incorporated, as well as individuals Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and Tito Bainimarama.
The second case concerns allegations of collusion and conflicts of interest involving Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, Mohammed Saneem, and Arif Ali, who is accused of donating $10,000 to the FijiFirst Party while serving as a civil servant.
The third case addresses complaints against the President of Fiji, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, along with Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and Charan Jeath Singh.
Another case involves Voreqe Bainimarama, who is accused of submitting false declarations of income, assets, and liabilities for the years 2014 to 2019 and 2022.
The final case pertains to Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum’s failure to declare overseas travel allowances.
Regarding other cases referred by the Supervisor of Elections, FICAC has indicated that these investigations are still ongoing and will not comment further until they are completed. FICAC has emphasized that it continues its operations as usual and maintains its commitment to thoroughly investigating complaints, regardless of the individuals involved.
