The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has notified Supervisor of Elections Ana Mataiciwa about the closure of two case files involving Minister for Women, Lynda Tabuya. The decision to close these cases was made on August 12, 2024, and formally communicated to the Supervisor on September 20, 2024.

The first case originated from a complaint sent by the Supervisor of Elections to FICAC on April 5, 2024, regarding allegations of false and non-declaration of income. Following the registration of the complaint, FICAC conducted an inquiry based on its findings and legal opinions. FICAC concluded that the only declaration required from Tabuya was related to her candidacy statement for the general elections, which she had already submitted in 2022. Consequently, FICAC has decided to close this file.

In the second case, a complaint was made to FICAC on May 24, 2024, regarding alleged false and non-declaration under Section 24 of the Political Parties Act. Upon assessment and subsequent inquiry, FICAC found that the Minister was not obligated to disclose any spousal information since she has been divorced from Robert Semaan since 2016. As a result, FICAC has also opted to close this file.

The findings from the initial inquiries of both cases have been shared with the Supervisor of Elections.
