The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has informed the Supervisor of Elections, Ana Mataiciwa, about the closure of two cases involving the Minister for Women, Lynda Tabuya. The decision to close these cases was approved on August 12, 2024, and communicated to the Supervisor of Elections on September 20, 2024.

In the first case, a complaint regarding false and non-declaration of income was forwarded by the Supervisor of Elections to FICAC on April 5, 2024. FICAC registered the complaint and conducted an inquiry. The investigation concluded that the only required declaration from Tabuya was related to her statement of candidacy submitted for the general elections in 2022. Consequently, FICAC decided to close this file.

The second case involved a complaint sent to FICAC by the Supervisor of Elections on May 24, 2024, regarding false and non-declaration under Section 24 of the Political Parties Act. After registering and assessing the complaint, FICAC conducted another inquiry. The findings showed that there was no obligation for the Minister to disclose any information about her former spouse, as she has been divorced from Robert Semaan since 2016. FICAC has also chosen to close this file.

Both sets of findings have been submitted to the Supervisor of Elections.
