The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has informed the Supervisor of Elections, Ana Mataiciwa, about the decision to close two cases involving Minister for Women, Lynda Tabuya. The cases were endorsed for closure on August 12, 2024, and the notification was sent to the Supervisor of Elections on September 20, 2024.

In the first case, a complaint was made against Tabuya regarding the false and non-declaration of income, referred to FICAC by the Supervisor of Elections on April 5, 2024. FICAC registered this complaint, assessed it, and conducted an inquiry. The findings revealed that the only required declaration from Tabuya pertained to her statement of candidacy for the 2022 general elections, and as such, FICAC has decided to close this case.

The second case involved a complaint regarding false and non-declaration under Section 24 of the Political Parties Act, which was referred to FICAC by the Supervisor of Elections on May 24, 2024. Following an assessment and inquiry, FICAC found no obligation for the Minister to disclose any spousal information, as she has been divorced from Robert Semaan since 2016. FICAC has also decided to close this case.

The outcomes of both preliminary inquiries have been forwarded to the Supervisor of Elections.
