The Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants (FICA) has recently appointed Sharvek Naidu as its new president during the 53rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) and a Special Council meeting, which took place on June 6 at the Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay Resort & Spa in Nadi. Mr. Naidu, a chartered accountant and partner at KPMG, previously held the position of vice president at FICA.

The outgoing president, Wiliki Takiveikata, expressed confidence in Naidu’s leadership, stating that he brings a wealth of experience, innovation, and a strong dedication to the profession. In his inaugural address, Naidu outlined his vision for the upcoming year, focusing on professional development, strengthening partnerships with stakeholders, promoting ethical standards, and improving operational efficiency within the institute.

Joining Naidu in leadership roles are Ravinesh Singh, who has been confirmed as vice president, and Shaneel Nandan, reappointed as treasurer. Naidu’s leadership team reflects FICA’s commitment to diversity, comprising nine members, including two female representatives and three past presidents.

The council is determined to uphold excellence in the accounting profession and is optimistic that this new leadership will guide FICA through a pivotal phase of growth and enhanced service to its members along with the broader business community.

This change in FICA’s leadership coincides with a broader narrative in Fiji, as visible in the recent remarks by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who described accountants as vital contributors to national development and emphasized the need for collaboration among professionals to build a resilient economy. Such sentiments echo the ongoing push in Fiji for a supportive and proactive professional landscape.

Overall, this new chapter for FICA under Mr. Naidu’s presidency is filled with hope and opportunity, setting the stage for ongoing collaboration and innovation within the accounting profession in Fiji.
