On June 29-30, a significant conference took place at the Harbourpoint Convention Centre in Lami, focusing on promoting indigenous Fijian business initiatives. Organized by the Fiji Indigenous Business Council (FIBC) and led by Ulaisi Taoi, the event aimed to create strong networking opportunities for iTaukei individuals and businesses.
During the two-day conference, several strategic discussions were held, leading to the establishment of workspace facilities for FIBC. Following up on a previous announcement made by Taoi earlier in the month, she highlighted the necessity of this effort via a phone interview, indicating that the development of these facilities would greatly assist the 91 businesses currently under the FIBC banner.
Taoi emphasized the importance of having a dedicated facility to facilitate various meetings and training sessions. The new office space will include a board room, training room, secretariat, and eight cubicles, designed to enhance productivity among members of the council.
Furthermore, Taoi mentioned that educational programs would be provided, focusing on business management, finance issues including Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF), and general business practices. The council’s office will also serve as a venue for company meetings and networking, creating opportunities for indigenous Fijians to engage meaningfully in the business landscape.
The initiative by the FIBC underscores a deeper commitment to enhancing business practices among the iTaukei community, particularly for those who are starting their entrepreneurial journeys. The organization aims to empower these individuals with the necessary support to navigate challenges effectively and achieve sustainable success in their ventures.
This proactive approach reflects a positive step towards fostering a thriving indigenous business sector, paving the way for future growth and innovation in the Fijian economy. With the new office set to begin operations in November and plans to establish additional facilities in Lautoka, Labasa, and Rakiraki, there is a hopeful outlook for indigenous business development across Fiji.
In summary, the FIBC is taking significant strides to enhance business opportunities for iTaukei individuals, creating an environment that promotes collaboration, education, and success.
