FHL Tower Construction Resumes: A New Era of Safety and Progress in Suva

Fijian Holdings Limited (FHL) has announced that construction on the FHL Tower in Suva has officially resumed after halting due to a tragic incident in late 2024, which resulted in the death of one worker and injuries to another. The company disclosed that work was able to restart following the arrival of necessary replacement materials from overseas and after receiving multiple regulatory clearances.

FHL reported that the stop-work order, issued in December 2024 after the incident, has been lifted, confirming compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations. The Ministry of Employment verified that the site now meets all safety standards, essential for creating a secure working environment. Furthermore, Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) has cleared the site for its electrical installations, which have also met required protocols.

The company emphasized its renewed focus on safety, stating that all recommended safety measures have been fully integrated into current work practices. Temporary power has been restored, allowing construction to proceed efficiently.

FHL expressed its commitment to collaborating closely with the main contractor and authorities to ensure steady progress while maintaining an unwavering focus on safety and compliance. This commitment not only reflects FHL’s dedication to its workforce’s well-being but also signals to the community that they value responsible management and safety at work sites.

Despite the earlier delays and challenges, including a prolonged construction timeline due to the pandemic and safety incidents, there is a hopeful outlook for the FHL Tower project. Once completed, the tower promises to enhance the skyline of Suva and contribute significantly to the local economy. FHL’s approach may serve as a benchmark for improving safety practices in the construction industry, inspiring continued development and investment within the region.
