Training during the festive season presents significant challenges for athletes, according to Sefanaia Vuli, captain of the Lavidi Brothers. As the team gears up for the McDonalds Fiji Coral Coast 7s, scheduled for January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, Vuli expressed the difficulties faced during this period.

Many team members were unable to attend training last week due to family commitments and celebrations associated with Christmas and New Year. Vuli highlighted that festive distractions, such as family gatherings and traditional kava drinking, often impede training routines. However, he noted that despite these challenges, the team successfully participated in training sessions at the Sigatoka sand dunes.

Vuli, a former national sevens squad player, is keen on making a return to the national side. After a brief stint with the Kaiviti Silktails, he is focused on honing his skills in rugby union and aims for consistency in fitness among the team. Recognizing the Coral Coast 7s as one of the most competitive tournaments in the country, he expressed hopes that others from their team could follow in the footsteps of former captain George Bose, who now plays for the national team.

With fellow national squad members Iosefo Namoce and Livai Ikanikoda also on the team, Vuli has set a personal goal to rejoin the national sevens side. “I’m giving my all to return to the squad, and I’m prepared for any opportunity to contribute,” he stated.

In a recent competition, the Lavidi Brothers secured the runner-up position at the 31st R.C Manubhai Nataleira 7s held in Nausori, showcasing their potential as they head into the upcoming Coral Coast 7s.

As the Lavidi Brothers prepare for this tournament, their determination to overcome holiday distractions and strive for excellence is a testament to their commitment to the sport. Fans are eager to see how these players will perform as they showcase their talent on a prominent platform, potentially leading to future opportunities in the national squad. This spirit of resilience and aspiration is what drives teams like Lavidi Brothers to succeed in the competitive world of rugby sevens.
