As the festive season approaches, the Fiji Police Force is ramping up its operations to ensure public safety. Starting this week, officers will be on duty in various locations, a plan initiated by the police to encourage awareness of personal safety during this busy time of year.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu emphasized the importance of this early initiative, saying it serves as a reminder for everyone to remain vigilant. “We want to remind everyone to be mindful of their safety when traveling on the road, out shopping, at picnics by the sea, or simply enjoying themselves with their friends,” he stated.
The increase in police presence is not just for enforcement; it’s aimed at community reassurance as well. Driu pointed out that while police are there to maintain law and order, individual responsibility plays a significant role in ensuring safety. “We will be assisting our stakeholders in monitoring all movements, especially on our roads,” he added.
The Fiji Police Force has expressed its desire for an incident-free festive season and is actively seeking community support. “Police cannot do this alone, and we need your support. Support us in keeping everyone safe, whether it’s on our roads, out at sea, in towns and cities, or when you’re at home with your family,” said Driu.
Throughout this period, the police presence will be felt across towns and cities, on roads and highways, in communities, at picnic spots, schools, and business venues.
As we enter this festive season, the joint efforts of the police and the community can forge a safer environment for all, allowing everyone to celebrate joyfully without concerns for safety. By staying aware and supporting the authorities, we can contribute to a peaceful and enjoyable festive atmosphere.
