Checkpoints will continue to operate across the country as the police maintain heightened vigilance during the festive season. Assistant Commissioner for Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized that the Fiji Police Force is dedicated to ensuring safety and security on the roads, reinforcing their commitment to these checkpoint operations.

Since last month, the police have ramped up their efforts to create a safer environment for everyone celebrating during this time. ACP Driu highlighted that these checkpoints serve as a deterrent for individuals with malicious intent and act as a reminder for drivers to prioritize their safety and that of their passengers.

Through these checkpoints, police officers have successfully seized illicit substances, apprehended individuals lacking proper documentation, and confronted those driving with excessive passengers. They have also made progress in identifying and stopping drivers under the influence of alcohol.

ACP Driu urged the public to remain patient as officers carry out their necessary checks, reiterating that these measures are essential for the safety of all road users.

This initiative reflects the proactive stance taken by law enforcement to ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday season for everyone. Community cooperation with the police can lead to a more harmonious environment and contribute to overall public safety.

In summary, the ongoing checkpoint operations during the festive season signify a comprehensive approach to road safety, aimed at protecting citizens and fostering a safe atmosphere during celebrations.
