Checkpoints will continue to be set up across the country as police enhance security measures throughout the festive season. Assistant Commissioner for Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized that the Fiji Police Force is dedicated to ensuring safety on the roads and will maintain these checkpoint operations.
Since last month, the police have intensified their efforts to foster a secure atmosphere during this holiday period. ACP Driu explained that these checkpoints serve as a deterrent for individuals with malicious intents and also raise awareness among drivers, reminding them to prioritize the safety of themselves and their passengers.
Through these operations, police officers have successfully intercepted drugs, issued charges for violations such as inadequate documentation and overloading of passengers, and apprehended individuals driving under the influence of alcohol.
ACP Driu called on the public to remain patient as officers conduct their checks, reinforcing that these measures are in place to protect all road users.
This proactive approach by the police not only aims to enhance safety during a busy travel period but also fosters a sense of community responsibility and care for one another’s well-being. By ensuring strict adherence to road safety protocols, it is hoped that citizens will embrace safe practices, thereby contributing to a more secure festive environment for everyone.
