Thirteen individuals were apprehended yesterday for their involvement with illegal drugs. Among those arrested were a 33-year-old carpenter and a 47-year-old security guard, taken into custody at the Nadonumai Roadblock after officers discovered small plastic bags containing white crystals in their possession.
In a separate incident in Waiyavi, Lautoka, police conducted a raid on a residence, leading to the arrest of four individuals. Officers seized white crystals, drug paraphernalia, and cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales.
Additionally, a 32-year-old mechanic from Waimalika Sabeto was detained at the Sanasana grounds after being found with six bags containing similar white crystals. In another case, a 29-year-old man from Semo, Sigatoka, was arrested at the Ciri Junction bus shelter, where he was found with seven branches of a plant suspected to be marijuana.
A 46-year-old farmer from Navosa was apprehended at Nadi Bus Stand after police found him in possession of 161 branches of suspected marijuana along with cash believed to originate from drug sales. Lastly, a 24-year-old man from Natutu, Ba, was arrested at the Ba Market area with eight sachets of dried leaves thought to be marijuana, wrapped in aluminum foil.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu stated that these arrests signify the beginning of their Festive Season operations, indicating that more arrests are anticipated in the days ahead.
This comprehensive operation reflects law enforcement’s commitment to tackling drug-related issues, especially during a season that can sometimes see an uptick in illicit activities. It serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to promote public safety and well-being within the community.
