A suspect has been detained by police following a stop at the Nadonumai roundabout last night, where he was allegedly found in possession of illegal drugs. During the arrest, the individual reportedly threatened a police officer.
Assisted by the K-9 Unit, authorities discovered a clear plastic wrapper and zip lock bags containing substances suspected to be marijuana. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, ACP Livai Driu, emphasized that drug-related arrests are a daily occurrence.
He announced that during the festive season, the Fiji Police Force will intensify efforts to combat the transportation and distribution of illegal drugs throughout the country. “We are focusing on anyone suspected of drug involvement. Our team will inspect known drug hotspots and monitor any vehicles and vessels that may be operational during this festive period,” he stated.
ACP Driu further mentioned the continuation of surprise checks on vehicles and individuals deemed suspicious, reinforcing the ongoing campaign against drug crimes. He also encouraged public support in this essential fight against illicit drugs.
It is heartening to see law enforcement actively engaging in efforts to maintain community safety and combat drug-related issues, especially during a time when festivities often lead to increased activities. The commitment from the police to keep the community informed and engaged is a positive step in the right direction.
