Law enforcement activities targeting drug operations have ramped up ahead of the festive season to disrupt the supply chain.
In Savusavu, police arrested five individuals during drug raids, seizing dried leaves suspected to be marijuana. Similarly, in the Central Division, a man in his 50s was taken into custody at a carrier stand for possessing the same substance.
In Nabua, authorities apprehended a man in his 20s along Mead Road after discovering multiple sachets of dried leaves, a plastic bag with seeds believed to be marijuana, and a zip-lock bag containing white crystals suspected to be methamphetamine.
Additionally, an 18-year-old male was arrested in Sigatoka Town where he was found with over 50 dried branches and loose leaves thought to be marijuana.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu emphasized that divisional operations will also prioritize school and community awareness. He stated that proactive community policing is essential to alleviate the effects of drugs on families and communities. ACP Driu underscored the importance of information sharing to bolster law enforcement’s efforts in reducing the drug supply.
