Yesterday, law enforcement officials arrested 13 individuals for drug-related offenses, emphasizing their commitment to combating illegal drug possession. Among those apprehended were a 33-year-old carpenter and a 47-year-old security guard, both detained at the Nadonumai Roadblock for possessing small plastic bags filled with white crystals, which are suspected to be illicit substances.
In a separate incident, police conducted a raid in Waiyavi, Lautoka, leading to the arrest of four individuals who were found with white crystals, drug paraphernalia, and cash believed to be linked to drug sales. Additionally, a 32-year-old mechanic from Waimalika Sabeto was taken into custody at Sanasana Ground after he was discovered with six bags of white crystals.
Further arrests included a 29-year-old man from Semo, Sigatoka, caught at the Ciri Junction Bus shelter with seven branches of a plant thought to be marijuana. Moreover, a 46-year-old farmer from Navosa was arrested at the Nadi Bus Stand with 161 branches of what is believed to be marijuana, along with cash presumed to be from drug sales. Lastly, a 24-year-old man from Natutu, Ba, was apprehended at the Ba Market Area while possessing eight sachets of dried leaves wrapped in aluminum foil, again believed to be marijuana.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, indicated that these arrests mark the commencement of heightened law enforcement activities during the festive season, suggesting that further arrests related to drug possession are likely as operations continue.
This proactive approach by law enforcement highlights the ongoing efforts to ensure community safety and well-being during a time when illicit activities may see an uptick. The police’s continued vigilance offers hope for a drug-free environment, especially as they reinforce their commitment to upholding the law this holiday season.
