Law enforcement activities targeting drug operations have ramped up ahead of the festive season, with the aim of disrupting the supply chain. Police reports from Savusavu indicate that five individuals were arrested during drug raids for possessing dried leaves suspected to be marijuana.
In a related incident within the Central Division, a man in his 50s was detained at a carrier stand for similar drug possession. Another arrest occurred in Nabua, where a man in his 20s was taken into custody along Mead Road after being found with several sachets of dried leaves, a plastic bag of seeds believed to be marijuana, and a zip-lock bag containing white crystals thought to be methamphetamine.
Additionally, an 18-year-old man was apprehended in Sigatoka Town, where he was discovered with over 50 dried branches and loose leaves suspected to be marijuana.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, ACP Livai Driu, noted that divisional operations will also prioritize school and community awareness regarding drug issues. He emphasized that proactive community policing is essential to reducing the impact of drugs on families and communities, and that the sharing of information plays a vital role in law enforcement’s efforts to mitigate drug supply.
