A suspect is currently in police custody following an arrest at the Nadonumai roundabout last night, where he was accused of possessing illicit drugs. During the apprehension, the suspect allegedly threatened a police officer.
With assistance from the K-9 Unit, law enforcement discovered a clear plastic wrapper and zip lock bags containing what appears to be branches and leaves believed to be marijuana.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, ACP Livai Driu, emphasized that drug-related arrests are a daily occurrence. He stated that during the festive season, the Fiji Police Force is intensifying efforts to combat the transportation and distribution of illegal drugs throughout the country.
“We are targeting anyone suspected of drug involvement. Our operations will include checks at known drug locations and monitoring vehicles and vessels that may be active during this festive season,” Driu explained. “We will continue to conduct surprise checks on vehicles and anyone deemed suspicious. Our war on drugs is ongoing, and we urge the public to support us in this vital fight.”
This proactive approach by law enforcement not only aims to keep communities safe during the festive period but also encourages public involvement in reporting suspicious activities. Such collaboration between the police and the community could lead to significant breakthroughs in reducing drug-related crimes, fostering a safer environment for everyone.
