Six men remain in the custody of the Fiji Police Force as they await drug analysis after being detained on Christmas day for alleged possession of marijuana. This string of arrests is part of the police’s ongoing efforts to address illegal drug use and distribution during the festive season.

In the Southern Division, a 38-year-old unemployed individual from Nabua, Suva, was apprehended after authorities discovered seven sachets of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, which were wrapped in aluminum foil. Similarly, a 24-year-old man was arrested during a raid in Qauia, Lami, for possessing a branch of dried leaves believed to be marijuana. Additionally, a 52-year-old man from Nakelo, Tailevu, was caught with 20 sachets of dried leaves wrapped in aluminum foil.

The police also detained two men from Vusuya, Kuku, near Nausori Town, at Valelevu, Nasinu, after finding them in possession of two ziplock bags containing a crystal-like substance thought to be methamphetamine.

In the Western Division, a 50-year-old unemployed man from Tomuka, Lautoka, faced arrest for allegedly holding five sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana, also wrapped in aluminum foil.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, highlighted the police’s vigilance in detecting opportunistic behavior in picnic areas and residential communities as they ramp up drug enforcement efforts.
