Festive Drug Bust: Six Men Arrested in Fiji’s Crackdown

Six individuals are currently in police custody pending drug analysis after being allegedly caught with marijuana on Christmas Day. Their arrests are part of ongoing efforts by the Fiji Police Force to tackle drug-related crimes, especially during the festive season when such activities may increase.

In the Southern Division of Suva, police apprehended a 38-year-old unemployed man who was discovered with seven sachets of a substance believed to be marijuana, packaged in aluminum foil. Additionally, a 24-year-old unemployed man was arrested in Qauia, Lami, after officers found a branch of what is suspected to be marijuana. Another arrest involved a 52-year-old man from Nakelo, Tailevu, who had 20 sachets of a similar substance.

Moreover, two men from Vusuya, Kuku, were arrested in Valelevu, Nasinu, after police found two ziplock bags containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.

In the Western Division, a 50-year-old man from Tomuka, Lautoka, was also taken into custody for possessing five sachets of what is believed to be marijuana, again wrapped in aluminum foil.

As the police continue with their drug operations, Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu emphasized the importance of vigilance in picnic areas and communities to deter opportunistic behavior during the holiday season.

The ongoing efforts by the Fiji Police Force highlight their commitment to ensuring community safety and well-being. Through proactive measures, they aim to reduce drug-related crime and promote a healthier environment for all residents, especially during a time meant for celebration and togetherness.
