Police in the Northern Division have apprehended five individuals, including a 50-year-old businessman, in connection with drug-related activities over the last two days. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu confirmed these arrests.

The first incident occurred in Naweni Village, Savusavu, where officers discovered marijuana-related foliage hanging on the walls inside a residence. The male suspect was promptly taken into custody, and the dried leaves have been seized for further analysis.

On the following day, Saturday, December 28, four additional individuals were arrested in various locations throughout Labasa. Among those detained in Tuatua was the 50-year-old businessman, who was found with two sachets of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, concealed in aluminum foil. A 20-year-old student from Batinivuruwai, Bua, was also arrested with a sachet of similar contents.

Furthermore, in Naduna Settlement, a 55-year-old farmer and a 35-year-old woman were discovered in possession of several containers, including a sealed plastic, a sachet, and a jar, all containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana. All seized items are now awaiting laboratory analysis.

ACP Driu stated that law enforcement will intensify drug raids and special operations throughout the festive season to combat drug-related offenses.

In summary, this string of arrests highlights the ongoing efforts of police to address drug-related issues in the community proactively. As authorities ramp up their operations during the holiday period, there is hope for a decrease in drug-related activities and an increase in public safety.
