Sixteen individuals were apprehended yesterday on charges related to the possession of illegal drugs. In the Central Division, seven arrests were made, including two men who emerged from a shipping vessel at Mua-i-Walu. Meanwhile, six people were taken into custody in the Southern Division, one arrest was reported in the Eastern Division, and two individuals were detained in the Northern Division.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu emphasized the ongoing efforts of the police to identify and confiscate illicit drugs during this festive season. “As I have mentioned before, arrests occur daily, and we remain committed to prosecuting individuals involved in the illegal drug trade,” stated ACP Driu.
He highlighted that the Fiji Police Force is intent on disrupting the drug market, especially with the anticipation of increased supplies during the holiday period. Despite a smooth operation on Christmas Eve, ACP Driu assured the public that the police will continue to ensure everyone’s safety and security.
This proactive approach from law enforcement demonstrates a commitment to public safety, particularly during a time when drug distribution may heighten. The community can take comfort in knowing that the police are vigilant and dedicated to maintaining a safe environment during the festive season.
