Sixteen individuals were taken into custody yesterday for allegedly possessing illegal drugs. The arrests were spread across several regions, with seven individuals apprehended in the Central Division, including two men who were found disembarking from a shipping vessel at Mua-i-Walu. Additionally, six arrests occurred in the Southern Division, one in the Eastern Division, and two in the Northern Division.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu stated that the police are actively monitoring and searching for illicit drugs, particularly during this festive season. “As I’ve mentioned before, arrests are made daily, and we relentlessly charge individuals and present them in court for drug-related offenses,” said ACPO Driu. He emphasized that the Fiji Police Force is committed to disrupting the drug trade, especially as it anticipates an influx of illegal supplies during this holiday period.
Although Christmas Eve operations ran smoothly, ACP Driu assured that the Fiji Police Force will maintain its focus on ensuring safety and security for the community.
This proactive approach by law enforcement reflects a dedicated effort to combat drug trafficking and uphold public safety, especially during a time when holiday celebrations can sometimes coincide with increased drug activity. The ongoing vigilance of the police can provide reassurance to the community, signaling a collective effort to create a safer environment for everyone.
