Divisional taskforces are actively disrupting illegal marijuana cultivation as the festive season operations ramp up. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu reported that in a recent operation by the Savusavu Police within the Viani farming area, over 200 marijuana plants were confiscated. Additionally, a separate raid in the Navosa highlands resulted in the seizure of more than 1,000 marijuana plants. The identities of the farm owners involved remain unverified at this time.
ACP Driu emphasized that these seizures positively contribute to efforts aimed at reducing the supply of marijuana, particularly since some of the plants were ready for distribution. Alongside rural operations, law enforcement is also conducting successful raids in urban areas. Just this morning, a raid at a carrier stand in Suva yielded significant results, as officers found several parcels of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana following searches of two vehicles.
Investigations into these incidents are ongoing, and several suspects have been taken into custody. ACP Driu reiterated the commitment of the Fiji Police Force to maintain its momentum in disrupting and destabilizing illicit networks, warning that any attempts to hinder these initiatives will be futile.
This concerted effort by law enforcement reflects a strong commitment to public safety and the reduction of illegal drug trade, which is encouraging for the community. By addressing these issues head-on, authorities are not only working to eliminate criminal networks but also fostering a safer environment during the festive season.
Summary: Law enforcement in Fiji is intensifying operations against illegal marijuana farms, with significant seizures occurring in both rural and urban areas. The Fiji Police Force is committed to disrupting illicit networks and maintaining public safety as the festive season approaches.
