Divisional taskforces are actively cracking down on suspected marijuana farms as their operations intensify during the festive season, aiming to disrupt illegal networks. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu reported that in a recent raid by the Savusavu Police in the Viani farming area, officers seized over 200 plants believed to be marijuana.

Another operation carried out in the Navosa highlands resulted in the seizure of more than 1,000 marijuana plants. The identities of the farm owners involved in these operations have not yet been confirmed. ACP Driu emphasized that these seizures are a positive step toward reducing the supply of illicit drugs, as some plants were reportedly being prepared for distribution.

In addition to rural raids, urban operations are also proving effective. In Suva, a raid at a carrier stand led to the discovery of several parcels of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, following searches of two vehicles. The suspects connected to these incidents have been taken into custody, and investigations are ongoing.

ACP Driu assured that the Fiji Police Force remains determined to maintain the momentum in their efforts to disrupt and dismantle illegal operations, warning that any attempts to obstruct their policing efforts would be futile.

This assertive stance by law enforcement not only seeks to curb the drug trade but also reflects a broader commitment to community safety and well-being, particularly as the holiday season approaches. The ongoing efforts of the police might foster a more secure environment for residents, showcasing their dedication to public safety.

In summary, law enforcement agencies are making significant strides in tackling marijuana cultivation in Fiji, with numerous successful raids conducted both in rural and urban areas, signaling a strong commitment to combat illegal drug activities.
