Festive Crackdown: Police Ramp Up Marijuana Seizures Across Fiji

Substances believed to be marijuana have been seized across all five policing divisions, thanks to enhanced information-sharing efforts.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) Livai Driu announced that drug operations are intensifying as the festive season approaches, aiming to disrupt and destabilize the drug supply market.

In Savusavu, authorities arrested five individuals during raids where they allegedly possessed dried leaves thought to be marijuana.

In Suva’s Central Division, a man in his 50s was apprehended at a carrier stand after being allegedly found with dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

Additionally, along Mead Road in Nabua, a man in his 20s was arrested after being discovered with several sachets of dried leaves and a plastic zip-lock bag containing seeds thought to be marijuana, along with another zip-lock bag of white crystals believed to be methamphetamine.

In the Western Division, an 18-year-old was arrested in Sigatoka town after being found with over 50 dried branches and loose leaves believed to be marijuana.

ACP Driu emphasized that divisional police operations will also enhance school and community awareness initiatives. He noted that the sharing of information greatly supports law enforcement’s efforts to reduce drug supply.
