Training during the holiday season can be quite challenging. This sentiment was expressed by Sefanaia Vuli, the captain of the Lavidi Brothers, as the team gears up for the upcoming McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s, taking place from January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka. Lavidi Brothers is among 16 teams competing in the men’s division.

Vuli noted that the festive period has disrupted training schedules, as several players traveled to their villages to celebrate Christmas and New Year. “It’s always difficult to maintain our training regimen around this time due to family gatherings, feasting, and drinking kava,” he remarked. Despite the challenges, the team is pleased that most players attended their training sessions at the Sigatoka sand dunes.

A former national sevens squad member, Vuli expressed his ambition to return to that level of competition after a brief stint with the Kaiviti Silktails. He emphasized the importance of maintaining consistency in fitness, stating, “We know that the Coral Coast 7s is one of the toughest tournaments in the country.” With former captain George Bose representing the national team, Vuli hopes more teammates will seize the opportunity to showcase their talents during the upcoming event.

Vuli’s personal goal this year is to rejoin the national sevens squad, and he is ready to step up should the call come. The Lavidi Brothers team also includes national squad members Iosefo Namoce and Livai Ikanikoda. Last month, the Lavidi Brothers showcased their capabilities by finishing as runners-up in the 31st R.C Manubhai Nataleira 7s held at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori.

In summary, while the festive season has posed challenges for training, the Lavidi Brothers are determined to improve their performance and compete fiercely at the Coral Coast 7s. Their commitment to returning to peak fitness and showcasing their talents reflects a hopeful and dedicated spirit as they aspire to make a mark in rugby.
