Authorities are ramping up efforts to dismantle illegal marijuana cultivation as part of ongoing operations during the festive season. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu reported significant successes in recent raids aimed at disrupting illicit networks.
In one notable operation, Savusavu Police discovered and seized over 200 marijuana plants in the Viani farming area. A separate raid in the Navosa highlands resulted in the confiscation of more than 1,000 suspected marijuana plants. The ownership of these farms is still under investigation.
ACP Driu emphasized that these seizures are crucial in diminishing the supply of illicit drugs, particularly as some of the plants were being prepared for distribution. In addition to rural raids, law enforcement is also successfully targeting urban areas. A recent operation at a bus terminal in Suva led to the confiscation of several parcels of dried leaves, believed to be marijuana, from two vehicles.
As investigations continue, suspects have been taken into custody. ACP Driu reiterated the commitment of the Fiji Police Force to sustain their momentum in disrupting and dismantling drug networks, warning that any attempts to obstruct their efforts will be unsuccessful.
This decisive action by law enforcement not only targets drug production but also underscores a commitment to community safety and well-being during a time when they are most vulnerable. The ongoing operations could foster a safer environment for the public, especially during the festive season when drug distribution typically spikes.
In summary, the Fiji Police Force is actively engaged in eliminating illicit marijuana farms and distribution networks, achieving noteworthy successes in both rural and urban settings. Their determined efforts reflect a proactive approach to maintaining community safety and disrupting illegal drug operations.
