Civil servants in non-essential services are celebrating some encouraging news from Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. He has approved the semi-closure of non-essential government offices for the upcoming Christmas and New Year period. The scheduled closure will occur on December 27, December 30, and December 31.

Parmesh Chand, the permanent secretary for the Civil Service, emphasized in a circular released on December 4 that essential services will continue to operate, with sufficient staffing arrangements to ensure ongoing service delivery. He also noted that individual permanent secretaries have the discretion to decide if minimal staffing is required for specific services during this time.

This initiative is viewed as a positive chance for civil servants to enjoy quality time with family and friends during the festive season. Employees are encouraged to take advantage of their annual leave and time off-in-lieu, allowing them to maximize their holiday experiences.

In summary, this announcement not only reflects a commitment to employee well-being but also supports the importance of spending time with loved ones during the holidays, promoting a healthier work-life balance.
