A recent four-day festival in Savusavu successfully generated $48,000 designated for youth development initiatives. The Cakaudrove Multi-Ethnic Youth and Sports Festival, co-organized by the Cakaudrove Youth Council and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, brought together local communities to celebrate youth and promote sportsmanship.
Aubrey Whippy, the coordinator for the festival committee, announced that the 14 contestants competing for the queen title collectively raised $30,716.15. He expressed gratitude towards the Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, and his team, particularly divisional North manager Walter Matalau, for their essential support in facilitating the event, which marked the inaugural carnival organized by the Cakaudrove Youth Council.
Temalesi Tuiwalese, representing Vaturova, was crowned Miss Cakaudrove Youth at the festival held at Narain Park on Friday. Mr. Whippy elaborated that discussions regarding the use of the raised funds would focus on allocating resources for community investments, development projects in Cakaudrove, and operational expenses.
Looking ahead, the team aims to host a larger carnival next year, aspiring to include all 15 districts and enhance representation from various ethnic communities, such as Indo-Fijians, Rabi, and Kioa.
Rosi Toroca from Koroalau district was honored as Miss Charity after raising $7,612, further contributing to the festival’s community spirit.
This event not only provides critical funding for youth development but also fosters a sense of unity and cultural diversity within the community. With ambitions for future growth, the festival holds promise for expanded engagement and support for local youth initiatives.
In summary, the festival showcased community involvement and support for youth programs, reflecting a collaborative effort towards nurturing the next generation in Cakaudrove.
