FENC Fiji’s Lifeline: Over 11,000 Children Supported in 2023

The Foundation for the Education of Needy Children in Fiji (FENC Fiji) has provided essential support to over 11,000 children in the past year, according to Nirmala Nambiar, the Head of Operations.

This figure indicates a rising demand for assistance that has surpassed the Foundation’s expectations. Nambiar noted that FENC Fiji plans to reevaluate the number of beneficiaries to ensure that resources are utilized effectively.

The increasing number of beneficiaries highlights the growing difficulties many families in Fiji face in securing educational opportunities for their children.

Founded in 2009, FENC Fiji has supported more than 30,000 children in accessing education. This initiative is bolstered by approximately $300,000 in annual funding from both the Fijian government and private donors.

With this financial backing, the Foundation is committed to aiding children from low-income families by providing the necessary resources for their educational pursuits. Nambiar stressed the significance of the Foundation’s efforts, pointing out that the financial support helps many children remain in school and obtain essential educational materials that would otherwise be beyond their families’ means.

FENC Fiji is dedicated to ensuring that no child is deprived of education due to financial struggles, collaborating closely with schools and communities to identify children in need of help.
