FENC Fiji’s Annual Walk-a-Thon successfully drew numerous participants despite a rainy morning, showcasing community spirit and dedication to a noble cause. This event serves as a key fundraising effort aimed at supporting vulnerable children throughout the nation. Over its 16 years, FENC has positively impacted the lives of more than 39,000 children.
A member of the board, Raj Sharma, highlighted the financial needs of the organization, stating that $430,000 is essential annually to continue providing necessary assistance to underprivileged students. The average cost to support a child is about $100, but government funding falls short at around $270,000, necessitating additional community support.
This year alone, FENC Fiji has provided educational support to over 7,000 children, many of whom have suffered effects from recent natural disasters, including floods and fires. Nirmala Nambiar, Head of Operations, noted the urgency of their mission in addressing the educational needs of these affected students.
Education Minister Aseri Radrodro participated in the Walk-a-Thon, applauding FENC Fiji’s efforts while also stressing the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle for families in the community.
The collaboration among community members at the Walk-a-Thon reflects a strong commitment to the welfare of children, highlighting the power of collective action in making a difference. This spirit of community support and advocacy not only aids in immediate educational needs but also fosters a sense of hope for a brighter future for all Fiji’s children.
As demonstrated through this event, the community is encouraged to continue backing organizations like FENC Fiji who tirelessly work towards uplifting the standards of education and support for vulnerable families in the region.
