The Greater Good Foundation, located in Lautoka, is reaching out to the community for help in providing food for approximately 300 dogs in its care. In a heartfelt appeal shared on social media, the Foundation highlighted that many of these dogs, primarily females and puppies, have endured hunger for extended periods.
“Every meal we provide helps rebuild their trust and restores their frail bodies,” the Foundation stated, emphasizing the emotional toll and physical suffering these animals have experienced. In December, the organization faced a critical food shortage, nearly running out of supplies needed to fulfill their commitment of feeding the dogs daily.
The Foundation expressed gratitude for the past support it has received, acknowledging the contributions from local residents who have donated or settled their food bills directly. However, it has conveyed that its current monthly food expenses exceed its financial means, and they wish to lessen the frequency of their urgent appeals for help. To ensure the welfare of the dogs, the Foundation aims to secure regular donations that would cover the $5,000 monthly food bill, encouraging the community to participate by contributing as little as $16.50 a month to ensure one street dog never goes hungry again.
Donations can be made through their website, and for those preferring traditional methods, they have also provided banking details for direct deposits.
This initiative resonates with other ongoing efforts in Fiji to enhance animal welfare. Recently, the Pacific Animal Shelter and Hospital (PASH) in Nadi announced its ambitious plans for expansion, seeking to raise $100,000 for improved facilities, including a specialized boarding service for pets. As the community rallies around these causes, there is hope that collective efforts will lead to improved conditions for animals across Fiji.
The Greater Good Foundation, by reaching out for support, reflects a growing awareness of the challenges faced by animals in need and the positive impact a united community can have in addressing these issues. Such appeals not only focus on immediate relief but also foster a compassionate culture where the welfare of animals is prioritized.
