FCCC’s Bold Move: Protecting Consumers and Ensuring Fairness in Fiji

The Fiji Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) is taking significant steps to enhance consumer safety and market fairness through proactive inspections. Currently, officials are verifying generator specifications, licenses, and authorized use in Labasa to ensure adherence to the Electricity Act of 2017, thereby protecting public safety.

The FCCC’s efforts extend beyond the energy sector; they are also inspecting pharmacies to ensure compliance with regulations governing essential medicine pricing, quality standards, and consumer awareness. These inspections aim to bolster protection for consumers and ensure fair access to necessary medications.

Additionally, the Commission is engaging directly with communities by participating in events such as the Ba Job Fair, Market Day, and the Launch of the International Year of Cooperatives 2025. These platforms allow the FCCC to educate the public on consumer rights, rental awareness, and insights about the FCCC Act of 2010.

The FCCC has emphasized its ongoing commitment to fostering a transparent and equitable marketplace for all Fijians. This aligns with previous initiatives where the FCCC has been vigilant in monitoring traders to uphold ethical practices in the wake of rising consumer complaints regarding pricing and service issues. Efforts to maintain fairness in trading, such as recent market surveys and inspections, reflect the organization’s dedication to creating an environment where consumers feel safe and valued.

In light of these measures, the FCCC aims to inspire greater trust in the marketplace, showing a hopeful path forward as it encourages traders to uphold ethical business practices, ultimately benefiting consumers across Fiji.
