The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has announced the appointment of Pranil Singh, the current General Manager of Regulations, as the Acting Chief Executive Officer following the departure of Joel Abraham. Singh will assume this role until a permanent chief executive is selected by the board.
The FCCC Board expressed sincere gratitude to Abraham for his significant leadership contributions, particularly in enhancing consumer protection, regulating markets, and fostering a competitive business environment in Fiji. They acknowledged his exceptional service and extended well wishes for his future endeavors.
During this transition, the FCCC emphasizes its steadfast commitment to consumer rights and maintaining a well-regulated marketplace. The change in leadership presents an opportunity for the commission to introduce fresh ideas and perspectives, furthering its mission to strengthen consumer protections and ensure a fair competitive landscape.
Abraham’s tenure was marked by transformational developments, including his key role in founding the Pacific Islands Network of Competition, Consumer Protection, and Economic Regulators (PINCCER). This initiative aimed to bolster collaboration and elevate regulatory standards across the Pacific region. Under Singh’s leadership, the FCCC aims to build upon these initiatives while adapting to the evolving regulatory landscape.
This leadership transition holds positive prospects for both the FCCC and consumers in Fiji, signaling ongoing improvements in regulatory practices and consumer advocacy as the organization strives to enhance its operations and service to the public.
