The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has announced new regulated prices for various fuel products, including Unleaded Petrol (Motor Spirit), Premix, Kerosene, Diesel, and LPG, effective January 1, 2025. This pricing reflects the imports made by fuel and LPG companies in November 2024, with a one-month delay for price adjustments.
The FCCC’s assessment indicates that the prices for Motor Spirit and Premix will not change, thanks to favorable trends in international fuel prices and freight costs, even in the context of a stronger US dollar. Conversely, Kerosene and Diesel prices are set to increase due to rising international fuel prices and the stronger dollar. Similarly, LPG prices will go up as a result of increased Butane Contract Prices and heightened demand from global markets.
To ensure compliance with the new pricing structure, the FCCC has stated that its Enforcement Team will actively monitor both wholesale and retail outlets. Consumers are encouraged to report any discrepancies they observe in pricing, with the FCCC’s teams available in various regions to facilitate enforcement.
As the new prices take effect on January 1, 2025, the public is advised to stay informed by checking updates at local fuel outlets.
This proactive approach by the FCCC not only helps manage consumer expectations regarding fuel prices but also emphasizes the importance of consumer vigilance in maintaining fair pricing across the market. Overall, while some prices are set to rise, the continued stability in Motor Spirit and Premix reflects a positive aspect of the current energy market dynamics.
