The chief executive of the Fijian Competition & Consumer Commission (FCCC), Abraham Joel, has announced his resignation. In their statement, the FCCC hailed him as a transformative leader who was dedicated to creating a regulatory environment that emphasized fairness and consumer protection.
During his tenure, Joel focused significantly on safeguarding consumers from dishonest and unethical business practices, ensuring the enforcement of a robust competition and consumer protection framework. Under his leadership, the FCCC expanded its capacity and effectiveness, gaining both national and international acclaim as a reliable competition authority.
One of his notable achievements was the establishment of the Pacific Islands Network of Competition, Consumer Protection, and Economic Regulators (PINCCER), which has fostered regional collaboration and improved regulatory standards throughout the Pacific.
Abraham Joel joined the FCCC in 2013 and had been serving as CEO since 2016.
This leadership change presents an opportunity for the FCCC to continue building on the solid foundation laid by Joel, potentially bringing in new perspectives that can further enhance consumer protection efforts in Fiji and the Pacific region. As the FCCC moves forward, there is hope for continued progress in creating fair marketplaces for all consumers.
