Abraham Joel has stepped down as the chief executive of the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC). In an official statement, the commission recognized him as a transformative leader, highlighting his dedication to developing a regulatory environment focused on fairness and the protection of consumers.
During his tenure, Joel emphasized the importance of safeguarding consumers from unfair practices and was instrumental in enforcing a robust competition and consumer protection framework. Under his leadership, the FCCC expanded its capabilities and earned both national and international acclaim as a reliable competition authority.
A significant achievement during his time at the FCCC was his pivotal role in creating the Pacific Islands Network of Competition, Consumer Protection, and Economic Regulators (PINCCER), which has fostered regional cooperation and elevated regulatory standards throughout the Pacific region. Joel joined the FCCC in 2013 and has been serving as its CEO since 2016.
This transition in leadership presents an opportunity for the FCCC to build on the strong foundation laid by Joel and to continue advancing consumer rights and fair business practices in Fiji and beyond. His contributions have undoubtedly set a high standard for future leadership and regulatory efforts within the region.
