Joel Abraham, the Chief Executive of the Fiji Competition & Consumer Commission (FCCC), has announced his resignation after dedicating 13 years to the organization. His departure, while a heartfelt decision, marks the end of a significant chapter in his career, during which he has led FCCC since 2016.

Reflecting on his time at FCCC, Abraham expressed a deep emotional connection to the organization, describing it as more than just a workplace but akin to family. He emphasized his pride in the investments made in staff, which he believes will continue to benefit Fiji’s consumers in the long run. Abraham stated, “For me, it has always been about the people—serving Fijians, protecting their rights, and building systems that honor their trust.”

Under Abraham’s leadership, FCCC has established itself as a key authority in the region, focusing on consumer protection and economic integrity. His tenure saw the inception of the Pacific Islands Network of Competition, Consumer Protection, and Economic Regulators (PINCCER), fostering regional collaboration and enhancing regulatory standards. Furthermore, his leadership introduced various initiatives aimed at promoting a supportive workplace culture and operational resilience within FCCC.

Looking ahead, Abraham plans to take on a regional role, aspiring to replicate the successes achieved at FCCC across the Asia-Pacific region. He underscored that this transition is not a farewell but rather a new opportunity for collaboration aligned with the shared mission of FCCC.

Recognition for Abraham’s impactful leadership is echoed by Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica and FCCC Chair Isikeli Tikoduadua, both of whom highlighted the lasting positive influence he has had on consumer rights and regulatory standards in Fiji.

In conclusion, while Abraham’s resignation marks a significant transition, it also opens the door for new leadership to build on the strong foundation he established. The future looks bright for FCCC, and there is optimism about continuing to enhance consumer protection and regulatory excellence in the region.

As FCCC moves forward, it carries with it the legacy of a leader dedicated to fairness and excellence, poised to tackle the challenges ahead with renewed vigor.
