Abraham Joel, the chief executive of the Fijian Competition & Consumer Commission (FCCC), has stepped down from his position. The FCCC acknowledged his transformative leadership, highlighting his dedication to developing a regulatory environment that emphasizes fairness and consumer protection.
During his tenure, Joel focused on safeguarding consumers from unethical business practices by effectively implementing a competition and consumer protection framework. Under his guidance, the FCCC expanded its capacity and improved its effectiveness, gaining both national and international accolades as a reliable competition authority.
Notably, Joel played a crucial role in the creation of the Pacific Islands Network of Competition, Consumer Protection, and Economic Regulators (PINCCER), which has fostered regional collaboration and elevated regulatory standards across the Pacific region. Abraham Joel began his journey with the FCCC in 2013 and has been leading the organization as CEO since 2016.
With his departure, the FCCC may usher in new opportunities for growth and innovation, paving the way for further advancements in consumer protections and regulatory measures in Fiji and the broader Pacific.
This transition can serve as a chance for the commission to continue evolving under new leadership while maintaining the important principles of fairness and protection that were championed during Joel’s time.
