Abraham Joel, the chief executive of the Fijian Competition & Consumer Commission (FCCC), has announced his resignation. The FCCC has recognized Joel as a transformative leader who has been dedicated to developing a regulatory framework that emphasizes fairness and protects consumers.
His tenure at the FCCC was characterized by a commitment to safeguarding consumers from unjust and unethical business practices, bolstered by the enforcement of a robust competition and consumer protection framework. Under his leadership, the FCCC not only expanded its capacity but also gained national and international recognition as a reliable competition authority.
Joel played a pivotal role in the creation of the Pacific Islands Network of Competition, Consumer Protection, and Economic Regulators (PINCCER), which has fostered regional collaboration and improved regulatory standards throughout the Pacific region. He joined the FCCC in 2013 and has served as CEO since 2016.
This transition marks a significant moment for the FCCC, but it also opens up opportunities for new leadership to build on the solid foundation Joel has established. The ongoing commitment to consumer protection and fair competition in Fiji is likely to continue, ensuring that the values promoted during Joel’s stewardship remain a priority for the commission.
