Joel Abraham, the Chief Executive Officer of the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC), has announced his resignation after a decade of service. Joining the FCCC in 2013, Abraham has been at the helm since 2016, leading transformative changes that have reinforced consumer protection and fair competition within Fiji and the Asia-Pacific region.

Throughout his tenure, Abraham has emphasized the importance of a robust framework to safeguard consumers against unfair practices, a commitment which has positively impacted the lives of consumers. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica, praised Abraham’s leadership, stating that the outcomes for consumers have significantly improved under his guidance.

Reflecting on his decision to resign, Abraham expressed a deep emotional connection to the FCCC, describing it as more than just a workplace. He stated, “I am confident that I leave FCCC in capable hands… the best investments we’ve made are in our staff.” He underlined the importance of serving the Fijian people and protecting their rights, affirming that he would continue to advocate for effective regulations in his future endeavors.

Abraham plans to take on a regional role, aiming to replicate the successes of the FCCC across the Asia-Pacific region. He concluded his remarks with optimism, saying, “This is not a goodbye, but a moment of transition,” indicating his desire to maintain connections with the FCCC moving forward.

This transition marks a significant moment for the FCCC as it prepares to continue its mission of consumer protection, with the foundation of leadership and investment in staff established by Abraham.

As this chapter closes for Joel Abraham, it opens new opportunities for both him and the FCCC, paving the way for future growth and continued commitment to protecting consumer rights in Fiji and beyond.
