Joel Abraham has stepped down from his position as the chief executive officer of the Fijian Competition & Consumer Commission (FCCC). Mr. Abraham, who has been with the commission since 2013 and took on the CEO role in 2016, is recognized for his transformative leadership during his tenure.
In a recent media statement, the FCCC acknowledged Mr. Abraham’s deep commitment to establishing a regulatory framework that emphasizes fairness, consumer protection, and economic integrity in Fiji and the broader Asia-Pacific region. Under his stewardship, the commission has focused on safeguarding consumers against unfair business practices through robust competition and consumer protection regulations.
The FCCC noted significant growth in its capacity and effectiveness during Abraham’s leadership, achieving both national and international recognition as a reputable competition authority. Notably, Mr. Abraham played a crucial role in creating the Pacific Islands Network of Competition, Consumer Protection, and Economic Regulators (PINCCER), which has strengthened regional cooperation and improved regulatory standards across the Pacific.
In addition to regulatory advancements, Abraham was a proponent of employee-centered initiatives like the iCARE programme and the implementation of sustainability and flexible work policies.
