FBC Clinches Top Current Affairs Award for Historic Tui Nayau Installation Coverage

The Fijian Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) earned high praise at the Fiji Achievement in Media Excellence Awards on Saturday, winning the award for Television and Video – Best Current Affairs Report. This accolade highlights FBC’s exceptional coverage of the historic installation of the Tui Nayau, which took place in July.

The roots of FBC’s involvement in the ceremonial installations date back to 1966 when it broadcast the installation of the late Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba via Radio Fiji One. Similarly, in 1969, the event honoring Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara was documented by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). However, this year marked a significant milestone as FBC showcased the installation event across multiple platforms, utilizing both English and iTaukei commentators to enhance the viewing experience.

TV Manager Sitiveni Halofaki expressed gratitude for the acknowledgment, noting the sensitive nature of traditional ceremonies which posed challenges for the team and other media representatives. He emphasized that this recognition reflects the collective efforts of all media personnel who reported on this historic event, especially as it marked the installation of the Tui Nayau after a two-decade vacancy of the title.

In addition to the current affairs honor, FBC’s radio station Bula FM was also recognized with the iTaukei Radio Show of the Year award for its popular program Mataka Vou, airing weekdays from 6 am to 9 am.

Looking ahead, FBC has expressed its ambition to maintain its role as a leading source of news and entertainment in the region, as the FAME Awards are set to return next year, promising a continued commitment to deliver quality content right to viewers’ homes.
