Sahil Prasad, representing Nadi Sport’s Club, triumphed at the South Seas Club Trustees Cup for the third consecutive time last Saturday in Lautoka. In a thrilling final, he secured a win against his father, Yogen Prasad, with a score of 2-0.
Sahil’s victory came with a cash prize of $1,000, while Yogen received $500 along with a trophy. Reflecting on his achievement, Sahil expressed the challenges of defending his title, stating, “It’s been really good actually because as the defending champion, it’s always hard to win it again and again.” He also shared that this victory made for a joyful Christmas celebration with his family.
Throughout the tournament, Sahil showcased his skills by defeating Sanjeev Nadi, Sigatoka’s number one player, in the quarterfinals with another 2-0 win, followed by a victory in the semifinals against Jiten Prasad, who ranks third in Fiji.
Club board of trustees chairman Jan Mohammed reiterated the commitment of the South Seas Club to continue enhancing its reputation as a premier venue for snooker in Fiji, a sentiment that bodes well for the future of the sport in the country.
Other notable names in the tournament included quarterfinalists Sanjeev Nand, Kushaal, Roneel Sami, and Abdul Zaved, while the top 16 qualifiers featured players like Raymond Reddy and Esala Talebula.
This exciting event showcases the growing interest and talent in snooker within Fiji, and with continued support from the club, the future looks bright for aspiring players.
