Father-Son Showdown: Sahil Prasad’s Historic Third Win!

Sahil Prasad from Nadi Sports Club became the champion of the South Seas Club Trustees Cup for the third consecutive time last Saturday in Lautoka. In an exciting final match, Sahil triumphed over his father, Yogen Prasad, with a score of 2-0.

Sahil walked away with a prize of $1,000, while Yogen took home a trophy and $500. Reflecting on his victory, Sahil expressed the challenges of being a defending champion, stating, “It’s always hard to win it again and again.” He also shared his joy about competing against his father in the final and noted the significance of this Christmas for their family.

In the tournament, Sahil demonstrated impressive skill, defeating Sanjeev Nadi, Sigatoka’s top player, in the quarterfinals, followed by a victory against Fiji’s third-ranked player, Jiten Prasad, in the semi-finals. He expressed gratitude for the ongoing competition over the years, emphasizing the positive spirit of rivalry within the family.

Club board of trustees chairman Jan Mohammed announced that efforts to enhance the South Seas Club into a premier venue for snooker in Fiji would continue, promising exciting prospects for the sport in the region.

Other notable quarterfinalists included Sanjeev Nand, Kushaal, Roneel Sami, and Abdul Zaved, with the top 16 qualifiers being Raymond Reddy, Esala Talebula, Lema Matailevu, Navneil Maharaj, Remal Narayan, Vineel Nand, Salend Gounder, and Savati Natoga.

This event showcases not only the talent present in snooker but also the bond between family members who are both competitors and supporters. The growth of such tournaments can further engage the community and inspire future players to participate.
